Highlanders look to tip over defending champions Crusaders in Christchurch

June 17, 2019

The stats are against the Highlanders, with the blue and gold team yet to beat the Crusaders during play-offs in the Super Rugby’s 24-year history.

The Highlanders have a tough task ahead of them as they look to create history in knocking over the defending champions the Crusaders in Christchurch on Friday.

History is against the Southerners' side, having never beaten the Crusaders in the play-offs in the competition’s 24-year-long history.

"We don't look at ourselves as the battlers I guess that is up to you guys [media] to determine that and the general public," said Highlanders utility back Marty Banks.

"We're pretty happy with where we are at, as long as we go up there and nail our role and nail our job we will be pretty happy."

The Highlanders' chances will be helped somewhat by the likely return of All Blacks fullback Ben Smith who has been side-lined the last six weeks due to a hamstring injury.
