Heartwarming scenes as Ireland flanker gifts Six Nations winners medal to fan with Down syndrome

March 19, 2018

Ireland flanker Peter O'Mahony captured the hearts of rugby fans around the world - gifting his Six Nations winners medal to a young fan with Down syndrome.

After Ireland sealed the tournament and a Grand Slam with a 24-15 win over England at Twickenham yesterday, the team celebrated in style - with young fan Jennifer Malone joining in the party.

O'Mahony spotted Malone - who has visited the Ireland side before - in the crowd, letting her lift the Six Nations trophy, before placing his medal around her neck.

"Yes my sister got to lift the Six Nations trophy today in Twickenham and got Peter O'Mahony's medal and yes I am extremelyyyyy jealous," Malone's older sister Rachel tweeted.

That would be it as far as Irish celebrations would go however, with the team's homecoming victory parade cancelled due to heavy snowfall.
