'He would do that for anyone' - Wallaby not surprised by David Pocock caring for Ryan Crotty after he was knocked out cold

August 20, 2018

In the 12th minute of the Bledisloe Cup Test in Sydney Aussie flanker Pocock came to the aid of concussed All Black Crotty.

Wallabies flanker David Pocock would care for anyone as he did for All Blacks star Ryan Crotty because "that’s the kind of guy that he is," according to his teammate Dane Haylett-Petty.

Pocock has been praised for checking on Crotty after the All Blacks midfielder was knocked out after colliding with teammate Jack Goodhue in the first half of the Bledisloe Opener.

Haylett-Petty says Pocock’s selflessness was no surprise to any of his teammates.

"I think he would do that for anyone, that’s the kind of guy that he is, very caring around the team and obviously for other teams," Haylett-Petty said.

The Wallabies winger said players immediately think of the player's wellbeing when a nasty injury – and particularly a head injury – occurs on the field.

The All Blacks coach said a specialist had already given the midfielder the all clear after he was knocked out in the opening Bledisloe Cup Test.

"The main thing is that they are taken care of and looked after," he said

"It’s obviously not a nice thing, it's something that a lot of us have experienced at some point or another in our careers and the main thing is he’s okay and looked after."

Yesterday, All Blacks flanker Sam Cane had thanked Pocock on behalf of both Crotty and the team.

"It speaks pretty highly of his character and the type of guy he is if he's willing to put the battle to one side in that moment and put the player's welfare first," Cane said.

The 1 NEWS sports reporter says the All Blacks midfielder has told him in the past that recovery times differ with each concussion.

"So, thank you David."
