Having shone on his Super Rugby debut, Chiefs coach Colin Cooper is looking forward to seeing more of youngster Etene Nanai-Seturo.
After an ugly stand-off between the Warriors and NZ Rugby last year, Nanai-Seturo was released from his rugby league contract, initially allowed to play for the All Blacks Sevens before making his Super Rugby debut against the Highlanders last week.
Starting on the left wing in the Chiefs' 30-27 defeat, Nanai-Seturo impressed many with his display, scoring twice as his side fell just short of a season opening win.
Speaking to media in Hamilton today, coach Cooper was full of praise for Nanai-Seturo's initial showing.
"He is special," Cooper said.
"He's only 19, he's played bugger all Mitre [10 Cup], and here we are chucking him into the big stage of Super [Rugby]."
Cooper also spoke about Nanai-Seturo's playing future, backing the teenage sensation for an eventual switch into fullback.
"I think [he will] in the future.
"It's a good position to be on the wing, learning position, learning high ball, just getting his confidence."
Nanai-Seturo himself said that he relished his debut, not overwhelmed by any nerves having experienced high pressure situations playing for the All Blacks Sevens.
"It was pretty good," he began.
"I was really excited for the opportunity. When my name got called at the team naming I was real nervous. I just had to slowly prepare for the weekend, for the big day.
"It wasn't too different from coming out of sevens. Nothing was different, it just felt the same."
Nanai-Seturo will be hoping for another stint in the Chiefs' starting side, as they travel to Canberra to face the Brumbies this weekend.
