'Good on them' – Hurricanes coach hails Crusaders' strength after 17 straight wins

February 24, 2019

John Plumtree held his hands up after his side's 38-22 defeat in Christchurch.

Hurricanes coach John Plumtree hailed the Crusaders' near invincibility, having notched their 17th straight win with a 38-22 victory over his side in Christchurch last night.

Having not lost since March last year, the Crusaders last night picked up a record 17th consecutive Super Rugby victory, with the Hurricanes unable to match the back-to-back champions' intensity on the field.

Speaking to media after his side's loss, Plumtree could only hold his hands up, complimentary of the Crusaders' on-field superiority over the rest of Super Rugby - unsure if or when the Cantabrians will taste defeat.

"They've got some quality depth, their bench is so strong as well," Plumtree said. "That's their strength, their quality in their depth, [they're] loaded with firepower right through.

"It's just where they're at as a club right now, and good on them.

"It's going to take a very good side to knock them off. But it's a long competition, and things can happen. Injuries happen and certain things might not go your way.

"It's not an impossible task to beat them, but it certainly takes a good effort."

The Crusaders next travel to Brisbane to face the Reds, while the Hurricanes head home to take on the Brumbies.
