Former All Black Charles Piutau not going to let £1 million status affect his rugby

Charles Piutau is reportedly the highest paid rugby player in world, earning £1 million (NZ$1.8 million) a year.

The former All Black revealed he will be doing his best to perform for his new team the Bristol Bears and not let the expectations get to him.

Piutau scored on his debut today for the Bears today (NZ time) in the English Premiership, with his team going down 31-29 to Exeter.

The 27-year-old star told the BBC before his match with Exeter that his sole focus is to play the best rugby he can and to put the salary matter to the side.

"If I worry about any of these tags or pressure, I won't play to the best of my ability," said Piutau.

"I enjoy this game and just want to go out and have fun. The rest will come if I have that mindset and that focus.

"I would love to do this forever but it's not the case, so the time I do have playing in this career, I really want to maximise that."

Piutau played 17 Tests for the All Blacks from 2013-2015 and scored four tries.
