Dane Coles 'good to go' heading into Super Rugby finals

June 16, 2019

The Hurricanes' captain is fit and firing after a long injury lay-off.

Hurricanes captain Dane Coles is ready to put his injury woes behind him, leading his side to a tilt at a second ever Super Rugby title.

Having missed most of the 2019 season with a calf injury, Coles has been a standout name on the team sheet for the Hurricanes the last three weeks, last night captaining the side to a 29-24 win over the Blues.

What's more, having battled knee and concussion concerns over the past couple of seasons, the dynamic All Blacks hooker is hoping that the worst is behind him heading towards this year's Super Rugby finals.

"I feel like I'm gaining a bit of confidence," Coles told media.

"I'm good to go. I've done enough sideline, watching the boys play - in promos, at games - I'm ready to put on the jersey and get to work.

"[It's] do-or-die footy, so I've got to lead and make sure the team can earn another Monday. I'm ready to go."

Coles also joked about his multiple playing comebacks, seeming to have spent more time on the treatment table than the pitch in the past few seasons.

"[I'm] just enjoying my time. I know I've said that because I've had multiple comebacks. When you get to this stage, you just cherish every game.

"To put on the Canes' jersey at home in a quarter-final, if my old mate [coach John Plumtree] picks me.

"I'm just loving it. It's awesome."

The Hurricanes will begin their Super Rugby finals campaign against the Bulls, who travel to Wellington next Saturday night NZT.
