Dan Carter celebrates being named Japan's Top League MVP

All Blacks legend Dan Carter has shown that he's still got it, named the most valuable player of the Japanese season, steering his Kobe Steelers side to the Top League title.

Carter, 36, kicked 13 points for the Steelers, as they defeated the Suntory Sungoliath 55-5 in the final yesterday, finishing his first season in Japan with a success rate of 86.2 per cent, as Kobe claimed their first silverware since 2004.

"It's a really proud moment for someone that has had such a long career and is getting to the end of that career," Carter said about his latest accolade.

"But that's not why I play the game. I play to try and benefit my team and help them win titles. It's not about individual awards like this. But at the same time it's nice to know the hard work and sacrifice that I have put in this year has been recognised."

However, it wouldn't all go Carter's way though as he was strangely omitted from the tournament's all-star XV, with Japan's Takuya Yamasawa named at first-five instead.
