'I could see Tony Brown' – Ben Smith compares Ireland try to Highlanders effort

November 18, 2018

The All Blacks wing weighed in after Ireland coach said he studies NZ teams' moves.

All Blacks winger Ben Smith says he saw shades of the Highlanders in Ireland's only try, having defeated New Zealand 16-9 in Dublin this morning.

Following Ireland coach Joe Schmidt's joke that he'd stolen all of his side's set plays from Kiwi teams, Smith was asked about whether or not the try scored by opposite number Jacob Stockdale was something from the Highlanders' play book.

"Don't tell me he got that out of the Highlanders?! "  Smith exclaimed.

"I could probably see Tony Brown pulling out something like that.

All joking aside, though, Smith credited the Irish, having scored the only try in an otherwise tight encounter.

"Obviously they executed it pretty well, obviously [it's] disappointing we couldn't shut that down.

"We'll learn from that and be better as a team going forward."
