Cory Jane's transition from player to coach has been given the tick of approval by longtime teammate TJ Perenara, having assumed the role of defence coach under Jason Holland.
After John Plumtree's departure to join Ian Foster's All Blacks coaching team, a management reshuffle has seen Jane take charge of the Hurricanes' defence for the 2020 season.
Jane, 36, played 123 times for the Hurricanes, a Super Rugby regular for over a decade with the Wellington side.
Speaking to media today, though, Hurricanes co-captain Perenara says that Jane has been a seamless inclusion to the side's coaching staff, less than two weeks out from the beginning of the new Super Rugby season.
"Ceej [Jane] is very good," Perenara began.
"The way he works and the way he sees the game is second-to-none.
"A lot of people think winger and don't think defence, but wingers are the most important person in defence. They understand the systems, they understand offensive shifts, they understand where we're vulnerable on defence.
"Having someone who thinks that way about defence in our environment is infectious to the players that have to be out on the field.
"It only helps us."
The Hurricanes begin their Super Rugby campaign away to the Stormers on February 2.
