The Chiefs have ended their four match losing streak - albeit not in the fashion they would have wanted - playing out a 23-all draw with the Hurricanes in Hamilton.
Coming into the match winless from their opening four matches, the Chiefs got off to the perfect start, with Anton Lienert-Brown opening the scoring in the second minute by charging down a kick from Hurricanes fullback Chase Tiatia.
The Hurricanes looked to have hit back straight away though, with lock Du'Plessis Kirifi appearing to have scored out on the right wing, only for a try saving tackle from Chiefs captain Brodie Retallick.
The visitors wouldn't be kept out for long though, capitalising on an offside penalty against the Chiefs, this time Matt Proctor crossing over for a try after being put through by Beauden Barrett.
It was a bit of individual brilliance from Damian McKenzie that saw the Chiefs hit the lead once again, latching onto a pass before outpacing the Hurricanes' defence to score.
A late McKenzie penalty saw the Chiefs extend their lead to 20-13 going into the halftime interval.
The Hurricanes would take the lead after the break, Wes Goosen making the most of a rare start on the left wing, put through after some brilliance from Tiatia, Barrett adding the extras to see the visitors 23-20 ahead.
A McKenzie penalty would level scores though, the Chiefs fullback nailing a shot at goal from well inside his own half, both sides locked at 23-23 heading into the final 10 minutes.
From there though, the scores wouldn't change again, the two sides having to settle for a draw.
The result sees both the Hurriances and the Chiefs remain where they are in the New Zealand Super Rugby conference. The Chiefs meanwhile, go above the Reds and off the bottom of the overall competition ladder.
