Blues desperate to snap losing streak ahead of facing Chiefs

July 24, 2020

Assistant coach Dan Halangahu says the last two games haven't been good enough.

After back-to-back losses in Super Rugby Aotearoa, the Blues are out to avoid defeat at all costs when they face the Chiefs at Eden Park tomorrow.

Having started Super Rugby Aotearoa with three straight wins, the Blues' hopes of lifting the trophy have come unstuck in the last two weeks, losing to both the Crusaders and the Hurricanes away from home.

However, returning to Eden Park on Sunday, the Blues have the chance to arrest their slide, taking on the Chiefs in the "battle of the Bombays."

Speaking to media after Blues training this morning, assistant coach Dan Halangahu made it clear that his side need to turn things around if they're any hope of catching the Crusaders atop the Super Rugby Aotearoa standings.

"We've been really frank with the group, this hasn't been good enough," he said.

"This team's been pretty proud of the performances they've put on, and the weekend [against the Hurricanes] was probably sub-par for us.

"We know that might have been a two-point loss, but the guys are reeling from that.

"They've done the talking in there and sent the message that they're out there in front of their home fans and putting in a performance that is probably more in line with what we're about as a group."
