Blues coach Leon MacDonald offers consolation to goalkicker Harry Plummer: It happens to everyone

February 17, 2019

The Blues coach said costly goalkicking misses can happen to everyone, including the greats.

Blues coach Leon MacDonald admitted it will be tough on goalkicker Harry Plummer after he missed two kicks late in the loss to the Crusaders, but he backed the youngster to bounce back, saying it happens to everyone including a young Dan Carter.

After coming off the bench, Plummer missed a conversion that would have levelled the scores and then a penalty which would have put the Blues ahead.

“I think it will be tough on anybody, he’s a young man who has got a bright future ahead of him and this is part and parcel of the job he’s got, we’ll support him well and the boys will get around him,” MacDonald said following the 24-22 loss at Eden Park.

“The type of guy that he is he’ll be pretty determined he’ll be better.”

“I remember playing with a young Dan Carter who did something similar, so it happens to everyone.”

Plummer’s woes kicking for goal also earned some sympathy from Crusaders coach Scott Robertson.

“You feel for Harry, young fella, debut? Miss a couple, that’s tough,” he said.
