Blues announce Blake Gibson and Patrick Tuipulotu as co-captains for 2019

December 7, 2018

The Blues have today announced loose forward Blake Gibson and All Blacks lock Patrick Tuipulotu as co-captains for the 2019 Super Rugby season.

Blues coach Leon MacDonald said both players have proven their leadership qualities in the Mitre 10 Cup.

They replace halfback Augustine Pulu.

"It is a real benefit to have two players of this calibre who are from our region and are so committed to the club and the people we represent," said MacDonald.

"Blake and Patrick, together with all our 2019 squad and management group, are hungry for success and these two will get the team following them both on and off the field.

"Both Blake and Patrick are hungry to lead the Blues to success in 2019 and we are excited by the strong values, skills and experience they bring to the group."

Gibson has been with the Blues for four years and has played 30 Super Rugby games for the Auckland franchise.

Tuipulotu made his debut for the Blues against the Highlanders in 2014 and has played 53 games for the Blues.
