Black Ferns prove too strong for plucky Wallaroos at Eden Park

August 25, 2018

Relive the Black Ferns' big win over the Wallaroos in the second Test at Eden Park, as it happened.

Black Ferns 45 - 17 Wallaroos

80 mins:  That's fulltime, the Wallaroos were plucky but New Zealand proved too strong, with the forwards in particular running roughshod over the opposition at times.

78 mins: Murphy knocks on in an aerial contest with her opposite number, Winiata.

71 mins: The Roos with a consolotion try, it was Ngaha doing a Ferns forwards to teh Ferns forwards. Powering on to the ball and scoring.

66 mins: They're in again, Winiata finishes off in the corner.

61 mins: It's back to 15 women for Australia.

57 mins:  Wickliffe with a superb diving finsh in the corner. Fusitu'a eat your heart out. Try is unconverted.

55 mins: Pip Love looks to have scored a second, she's dropped it unfortunately. It was the same old story. The Ferns forwards rumbling over the gain line at will.

54 mins: The Ferns make a superb break but the Roos manage to scramble back and win the ball before clearing it.

50 mins: Cocksedge finishes off a brilliant wrap-around/block set move. Quite simply too good. That try is converted.

50 mins: The Roos have been reduced to 14 women with Robinson given a yellow card for cynically stopping the ball at a ruck.

44 mins: Fitzpatrick is in, she charges on to a short ball at pace and she couldn't be stopped. Try is converted.

43 mins: An unbelievable tackle on Faamausili as she was diving to score in the corner. It was No.8 Hamilton who got low and stopped the NZ captain in her tracks.

42 mins: Penalty for a high tackle on Saili.

41 mins: We're back and the Ferns have been awarded an early penalty.

40 mins: The Aussies have gone over but they're checking it. She was short initally. They've given it! A huge moment. It was Patu with the big play. The conversion was missed but that changes the feeling for both sides heading into the break. We'll be back shortly.

38 mins: The Roos make a break before grubbering. They've looked really threatening but need to take advantage of some of these chances they're creating.

37 mins: There's been a break with NZ tighthead prop Aldora Itunu down. She is sitting up now and got herself up on the medicab.

36 mins: The Aussies bomb a likely try, they burst into the backfield but Hamilton couldn't find the support that likely would have scored. There was a knock on off the next phase.

34 mins: Not straight at the lineout from NZ, the lineouts for both sides have struggled in blustery conditions.

31 mins: A promising break on the outside for the Roos ends when Pomare can't hang on to an inside pass. The Ferns go straight back on the attack.

24 mins: Wow! The NZ scrum absolutely lays waste to the Roos.

21 mins: NZ bashing away at the Roos' line. They've powered over again! Who is it this time? It's Blackwell. Again the Ferns' forwards with a real show of strength. Conversion attempt was successful.

16 mins: Goal-kicking prop Robinson can't convert. I repeat, goal-kicking prop.

15 mins: The Wallaroos have a lineout deep in NZ territory and they'll take on the Ferns in the forwards. The backs get it and they score! It was a Pomare who stepped back inside and managed to get the ball down. That's her first Test try.

11 mins: The conversion popped over no problem.

10 mins: The Ferns throw a forward pass but the referee was playing advantage. The Ferns will tap and go, how refreshing is that? They've scored, it's the other prop, Pip Love. Too big, too strong, too fast.

6 mins: The Wallaroos found some space on the outside but the Black Ferns hang on before banging the ball clear.

3 mins: The referee will take a look at a possible NZ try. He's checking that the ball was put on the line. She scored, tighthead prop Itunu with her first Test try. No luck with the conversion.

2 mins: A big collision involving Waaka but the Aussies manage to retain possession.

1 mins: The Wallaroos kick off and the Black Ferns begin by rumbling the ball to midfield before kicking.

Preview: The Black Ferns named an unchanged squad from the win over the Wallaroos in Sydney and promised no let up for the Aussies in the repeat clash at Eden Park tonight.
