Hurricanes' first five eighth Beauden Barrett has been cleared to play in this Friday's Super Rugby match against the Highlanders at McLean's Park in Napier.
Barrett has been out of action for the Hurricanes for the past month due to a knee injury.
The 24-year-old said that he is comfortable running and is ready to play.
"It's feeling really good, rehab has been going well and I'm starting to kick the ball - so really excited about getting out there," said Barrett.
"I wouldn't be out there if I didn't feel up to it."
Barrett is happy that his young team mate Otere Black was given the okay to play in the IRB Under-20 Rugby World Cup in Italy.
"Yeah I'm glad that he (Otere Black) gets the release he has played really well for us," he said.
Barrett said that the kicking duties will most likely be passed onto either TJ Perenara or James Marshall.
"I haven't tried yet (goal-kicking), so that's work in progress."
"It was new territory for me I have never really done an injury that kept me out for this long so I just kept trusting the physio team we have here and worked really hard," he said.
Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd is resting Ma'a Nonu this week while Rey Lee-Lo will take his place and partner up with Conrad Smith in the centres.
Boyd is confident Barrett is fit and ready to play this Friday.
"He looks pretty good to me," he said.
Boyd is treating the Highlanders match up like any other fixture and is eager to get his side back on track after their loss to the Crusaders in the weekend.
"No different how we take any other game, we're determined to perform well enough to get the victory," said Boyd.
