'I will always support Quade' – SBW backs Quade Cooper after Brad Thorn snub sees him move to Rebels

October 26, 2018

After falling out with Brad Thorn at the Reds, Cooper will play next season in Melbourne.

All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams is backing his long time companion Quade Cooper's move south from the Queensland Reds to the Melbourne Rebels, following his falling out with coach Brad Thorn.

Cooper, 30, did not kick a ball in Super Rugby this year, banished to Queensland club rugby by Thorn, before confirming his move to Melbourne earlier this week.

Speaking to media in Japan ahead of the All Blacks' clash with the Wallabies in Tokyo, Williams said that he was firmly behind Cooper and any decisions he makes.

"I'm really happy for the bro," Williams began.

"Hopefully he doesn't go too well against the Blues - but I'm happy that he'll be suiting back up in Super Rugby."

Williams was then asked about the relationship between Cooper and Thorn, his former All Blacks teammate.

"I will always support Quade, this situation's no different."
