'All of Ngāpuhi is coming to watch!' Portia Woodman delighted she can show off sevens skills in Aotearoa

Women's rugby star Portia Woodman has a warning for fans wanting to watch the Black Ferns Sevens in action next year in Hamilton - get your tickets quick before her family does.

Woodman was on hand to help launch the Hamilton Fast Four quadrangular tournament today - an event that will run during the New Zealand leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series with France, China and England all taking part.

The 27-year-old said she's excited to play sevens on home soil but even more so for family who don't typically get to see her compete.

"Mum and dad came to Rio, the Comm Games, Sydney and those were the closest we'd get to home," she said.

"So being able to play at home, it's not going to just be mum and dad - it's pretty much going to be all of Ngāpuhi who are able to come and watch us play. It's going to be special."

Woodman, who is of Ngāpuhi decent, warned it would likely be a sell out event so fans should get in quick.

"They said there's probably 70 per cent sold so that last 30 per cent will probably be my whānau."

The inaugural tournament will play out on January 26-27 at Waikato Stadium with the bronze final and gold medal match played directly before the men's cup final.
