All Blacks target 2023 Rugby World Cup bounceback, says Beauden Barrett

November 5, 2019

The pain of Japan will pay off at the next World Cup.

The pain of this year's Rugby World Cup semi-final defeat will only push the All Blacks further in their future attempts at the Webb Ellis Cup, says Beauden Barrett.

Played off the park in every department, the All Blacks were dumped out of this year's World Cup in Japan by eventual runners up England, their dream of a third straight tournament win snuffed out at the semi-final stage.

However, with Kieran Read the only member of that starting side not returning to the All Blacks, Barrett is confident that the playing group will pick themselves up for future quests.

"We have to bottle up the feeling we felt after the English game and use it to try and be better for whatever it is," Barrett told media as the All Blacks arrived back into New Zealand this morning.

"Whether it's Super Rugby or the next All Blacks game, but certainly in four years' time. That's when we really need to make it count."

The All Blacks will now return home for a well-earned break, before Super Rugby begins at the end of January 2020.
