All Blacks Sevens thrash Scotland to finish day one of Sydney Sevens unbeaten

February 2, 2019

The All Blacks Sevens have finished the opening day of their Sydney Sevens campaign unbeaten, finishing with wins over Wales, Spain and a 42-0 victory over Scotland at Spotless Stadium.

After an opening 27-14 victory over Wales earlier today, the Kiwi made it two from two in the afternoon, with Spain on the receiving end of a 41-0 thrashing .

In their final match of the day, it took just two minutes for the All Blacks Sevens to get on the scoresheet, with Andrew Knewstubb outpacing the entire Scotland side for an 80m runaway try, converting to give New Zealand a 7-0 lead.

Limited in possession, the All Blacks Sevens took their chances as soon as they were presented, this time Kurt Baker breaking to set up Regan Ware for the Kiwis' second try.

Knewstubb had his second try not after, this time with Sam Dickson the creator, as New Zealand went into halftime with an imposing 21-0 lead.

After the break, Scott Gregory managed his first try of the weekend, again with too much pace out wide for Scotland to catch up with, Vilimoni Koroi this time adding the extras to keep his side flawless with the boot and put New Zealand 28-0 up.

Gregory would then have his second not long after, scoring with a near identical effort. Koroi again adding the conversion to go 35-0 ahead.

New Zealand would add one last try after the final siren, Jona Nareki scoring with the final play of the game, Koroi converting one last time for the All Blacks Sevens' biggest win of the day.

The All Blacks Sevens are through to tomorrow's quarter-finals, finishing top of Group C, where they will meet either South Africa, Australia, Argentina or Tonga, all battling for the top two spots in Group D.
