All Blacks Sevens sneak past England in Cape Town quarter-finals with last-gasp try

December 11, 2017

A last-minute try to Joe Ravouvou was enough to get the All Blacks Sevens into the Cape Town cup semi-finals after they secured a comeback win over England this morning.

England led the quarter-finals for the entire match but were put under pressure in the final minute of the match after their captain Tom Mitchell was yellow-carded for a high tackle.

With the score only 12-10 and sixty seconds on the clock, the All Blacks Sevens looked for a hole to find their game winner and it came on the left wing.

After initially working the ball to the right, the team came back left with a near linebreak inside the English 22m but two tacklers shut the run down.

However, with only six six on the field, the two-man tackle left England severely out numbered for the quickly-recycled ball which the All Blacks Sevens flung to Ravouvou on the left wing to dive in with and score in the corner.

The 17-12 win meant New Zealand would face hosts, the Blitzbok, in the semi-finals.
