All Blacks Sevens claim title as New Zealand complete perfect Sydney Sevens

February 3, 2019

New Zealand have capped off a perfect weekend at the Sydney Sevens, with the men's side adding another title with a 21-5 win over the USA at Spotless Stadium.

With both sides unbeaten heading into the final, New Zealand came racing out of the blocks, Regan Ware opening the scoring for the All Blacks Sevens, with the added conversion giving the Kiwis a 7-0 lead.

Sam Dickson was on hand to finish off a quick counter attack to help double New Zealand's lead before the interval, Vilimoni Koroi adding the extras for a 14-0 halftime lead.

Tone Ng Shiu added a third not long after the resumption, throwing a marvellous dummy to have the USA chasing shadows, Koroi again flawless with the boot.

However, the USA didn't lie down without a fight, Brett Thompson crossing over midway through the second half to keep his side in the hunt.

From there though, New Zealand finished off the job in style, seeing out the match to take the Sydney Sevens title, completing a clean sweep for the Kiwi sides, with the Black Ferns Sevens also taking the crown.

What's more, the win also sees the All Blacks Sevens rise to top of the World Sevens Series standings, meaning New Zealand hold top spot in both men's and women's divisions.
