All Blacks not out for revenge over 2018 loss against South Africa, says Steve Hansen

July 22, 2019

The Springboks claimed a famous 36-34 win at Westpac last year.

When the All Blacks face the Springboks in Wellington this weekend, revenge for their nailbiting 2018 defeat will be the last thing on their minds, coach Steve Hansen says.

Having lost both of their opening matches in last year's Rugby Championship, the Springboks stunned the sporting world with a backs to the wall 36-34 win over the All Blacks in Wellington, their first victory on Kiwi soil since 2009.

With the two sides to meet at Westpac Stadium again on Saturday night, coach Hansen says that the All Blacks won't be out for revenge, rather focussing on taking another step towards claiming the Rugby Championship, leading into the Rugby World Cup later this year.

Fronting media in Wellington, Hansen was asked about whether the 2018 loss will play a part in this week's build up and preparation.

"Not too much in the fact that it's all about revenge, we're not into that" Hansen said.

"We've looked at a lot of South African games, and what they did against us last time, the two Test matches, we'll look into.
