All Blacks and Canterbury legend Fergie McCormick has died, aged 78.

McCormick played 16 Tests for the All Blacks between 1965 and 1971, as well as making a record 222 appearances in an 18-year career with the union.

He has also coached age-group representative teams, and served as the president of the Canterbury Rugby Union.
