All Blacks midfielder Ngani Laumape announced today that he has re-signed with New Zealand Rugby and the Hurricanes until the end of 2021.
The 25-year-old said family played a big part in his decision wanting to stay in New Zealand.
"I just talked to my parents, and my partner. That was probably one of the hardest choices I had to make, but at the end of the day I did what was going to make me happy," said Laumape.
"At the end of the day I wanted to play rugby in New Zealand. I didn't want to leave and it just came down to me wanting to fulfil my potential, and me having no regrets when I get older."
Laumape made his debut for Manawatu in 2016 and went onto make his Super Rugby debut for the Hurricanes in the same year.
In 2017 he went on to debut for the All Blacks and has played 10 Tests in the black jersey.
"That's one of the reasons, and also I love what I'm doing at the moment, and I'm enjoying myself playing rugby in New Zealand and really having a good time at the moment," Laumape said.
"I can't worry about higher honours. For me it's just focusing on the Hurricanes and what I can do for the Hurricanes."
Laumape confirmed he had received overseas offers he could've taken up after the 2019 season but he believed the best thing for him and his family was to stay put.
"I want to stay in New Zealand. For me it's just about becoming the best player I can in New Zealand. And enjoying my time here with my family and kids."
