'We've got a job to do' – Reds' Brad Thorn not distracted by NZ return

February 20, 2019

Reds coach Brad Thorn is focused on his side’s Super Rugby clash against the Highlanders on Friday, having returned to Dunedin.

Now coach of the Reds after two seasons with the Highlanders as a player, 44-year-old Thorn sees his side open their Super Rugby campaign against his former team. However, he isn’t overawed by the task at hand.

“There’s definitely a feeling inside when you come back – a familiarity,” Thorn began.

“It’s just nice to be back here, I played for the Highlanders for two seasons as well – it’s a good feeling being back here.

“I guess I’ll catch up with a few relatives, but we’re here to do a job.”

For the Reds, though, the prospect of facing off against a Highlanders side high on confidence after a win over the Chiefs in Hamilton last week means that Thorn’s side are ready for a tough encounter after having the first week of Super Rugby off with a bye.

“We’ll be giving our best effort.

“They are a tough prospect. That’s what it’s all about, it’s Super Rugby.

“We’re looking forward to the game, the occasion, working hard for each other, and getting a result.”

The Reds face the Highlanders at Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium on Friday night.
