Few arrests made after Tonga-Samoa Rugby League match

November 5, 2017
Tonga and Samoa will play each other for The Rugby League World Cup tonight.

Police are pleased with the few number of arrests tonight following Tonga’s win over Samoa in the Rugby League World Cup at Waikato Stadium, Hamilton.

Several arrests were made after people were seen running into traffic and hanging from car windows and roofs after the event.

Rugby fans were filmed tooting car horns, waving flags, lighting fireworks and dancing in the street after the event.

Police will continue to direct the flow of traffic to allow Hamilton rugby fans to join in the celebrations following the win.
