Joseph Parker seeing benefits of changing up training regime ahead of Saturday's fight against Flores

December 13, 2018

The Kiwi boxer is set to face Mexican-American fighter Alexander Flores on Saturday in Christchurch.

Kiwi heavyweight boxer Joseph Parker accepts he has had a bit of a reality check this year as he prepares for his heavyweight showdown with Mexican-American Alexander Flores in Christchurch on Saturday.

Coming off two straight losses where he was dropped for the first time in his career, the former WBO champion is keen to get that knockout feeling back.

So he can get himself back among the world's elite boxers again.

"Working on a lot of power, working on a lot of strength," said Parker.

"We miss the days of getting knockouts you know, we want to knock someone out and so we have been doing a few things differently and we have seen benefits from it in camp and in sparring."

The back-to-back Super Rugby champions applied some boxing techniques in their pre-season training at Round 12 Gym.

Parker was joined by the Crusaders at Christchurch's Round 12 Gym yesterday, with the Super Rugby champions adding boxing to their preseason training.

He was gifted a Crusaders playing jersey by coach Scott Robertson.
