Team boss Grant Dalton says the monohull has the potential to be faster than the boats sailed earlier this year in Bermuda.

Dan Bernasconi, the design coordinator for Team NZ, said the process was new territory for the crew renowned for the innovations and strategies.

"We wanted to see how far we could push the performance of monohull yachts to create a foiling boat that would be challenging to sail and thrilling to match race," he said.

"We're really excited about the concept and can't wait to see it on the water."

The AC75 class rule will be published at the end of March next year.
