Watch: MLB batter collects cheeky safe hit after hitting ball... without holding the bat

April 22, 2018

Ronald Torreyes is off to a red-hot start in the first month of MLB action for the New York Yankees, but there may bee some luck involved if one of his latest hits is anything to go by.

Torreyes is batting .438 for the season so far and helped add to that stat yesteday when he was batting against the Toronto Blue Jays - even though he wasn't actually holding a bat when he collected a safe hit.

The Yankees' second baseman threw his hands at a two-strike slider from Danny Barnes and somehow managed to knock it over the infield into left field for a safe hit.

But replays showed Torreyes' swing had a hint of luck to it after he managed to hit the ball despite not holding the bat at the point of contact.

It was the only luck the Yankees seemed to get in the match, as they went on to lose 8-5.
