Watch: Kiwi cycling trio blitz Australia to lift Oceania Championship title

November 20, 2017

Kiwi sprint cycling trio Ethan Mitchell, Eddie Dawkins and Sam Webster have sent out an ominous warning ahead of next year's Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, romping to a gold medal at the Oceania Championships in Cambridge this afternoon.

Competing together for the first time since winning a world title seven months ago, the Kiwi trio picked up where they left off, dispatching Australia in the final, having topped qualifying.

The time apart looks to have only fueled the hunger of the Rio Olympics silver medallists, laying down an impressive marker to start their season.

"It's a unique thing when we can come back together and just gel so quickly," Webster said afterwards.

"We've only done two efforts in training together, and we made it click and produced some really good times here today."

The victory could be part of a prolific few months for the team, with February's World Championships in the Netherlands, before the Commonwealth Games in Australia later that month.
