Watch: The heart-warming moment emotional Kiwi Paralympic hero Adam Hall shows picture of late mum at medal ceremony

March 16, 2018

Kiwi Paralympic skier Adam Hall made the most of his moment on the podium in this morning's medal ceremony in PyeongChang after he made the heart-warming effort to show the world the person who helped him get there - his late mum.

Hall claimed bronze in the men's Super Combined on Wednesday morning after a brilliant run in the slalom saw him climb four places from seventh.

The 30-year-old was finally awarded his medal this morning with a fellow Kiwi presenting it to him.

Adam Hall couldn't find the words to describe getting back on the podium again, eight years after Vancouver.

Kiwi Paralympic legend Duane Kale presented the medal to Hall while acting in his official role of Vice President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), a role he was elected into late in 2017.

"Having known Adam for such a long time it was such a special moment to be able to present his medal this evening," Kale said.

"When the opportunity arose for me to present the medals for the Super Combined event it was one that I did not want to miss."

After Kale draped the medal around Hall's neck, the skier took a moment to remove something from his jacket pocket to show to the cheering crowd and television audiences.

It was a picture of his late mother Gayle, who died in a car crash just weeks after he won a gold medal in Vancouver eight years ago.

Hall said his achievement was finally starting to sink in.

"It's finally starting to sink in after the Super Combined race a few days ago.

"I'm just really happy to finally have this baby around my neck. Hugely honoured and proud to be a Kiwi tonight and represent all New Zealanders."
