Lisa Adams, the younger sister of Olympic shot put champion Dame Valerie Adams, has broken a world record at the Christchurch track and field nationals today.
She threw a world's best F37 shot put throw by a para-athlete of 14.13 metres.
"It was yeah...just like an instant high, running over [to Valerie] and high fiving and the tears started," said Lisa.
The 28-year-old has cerebral palsy and has only been in the sport for about 12 months.
She is coached by her sister Dame Valerie, who was there on the side-line to cheer and celebrate her achievement.
"I'm really happy that she is happy and she has been able to perform well," said Dame Valerie.
"At the end of the day for me as long as she is happy that is all that matters."
The previous record was set by German para-athlete Fraziska Liehardt who threw 13.96 metres at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
