Watch: 'Earn the Fern!' - Eliza McCartney joins host of top Kiwi athletes for Commonwealth Games countdown campaign

October 3, 2017

The NZOC have marked the six month countdown to the Gold Coast Games by calling on some of their biggest success stories.

The New Zealand Olympic Committee has teamed up with some of New Zealand's top athletes for a promotion celebrating the six month countdown to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

'Earn the Fern' sees past Olympic and Commonwealth Games medallists talking about what it means to them to earn the fern and represent the country.

The one minute video features Sarah Ulmer, DJ Forbes, Eliza McCartney, Dillon Boucher, Temepara Bailey and Richie Patterson talking about their respect for the silver fern emblem as past Kiwi triumphs at the games play out over their voices.

"It's amazing how far one fern has come," Kiwi weightlifter Richie Patterson says.

"The fern is a belief," sevens rugby star DJ Forbes explains.

Eliza took out the NZ and Oceania record with a brilliant 4.82m vault yesterday.

Next year's Commonwealth Games will be held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia between 4 and 15 April.
