UFC fighter claims unorthodox KO win with brutal slam move

December 7, 2020

American mixed martial arts fighter Jordan Leavitt has submitted a late entry for knockout of the year after wrapping up his UFC fight in just 22 seconds with a bizarre but brutal slam move.

Leavitt was taking on fellow American Matt Wiman at UFC Las Vegas 16 yesterday when he managed to take an early advantage in the fight with a grapple out of the gate.

The move allowed Leavitt to pick up Wiman and take him to the edge of the octagon, where he pulled off a flawless finish.

Leavitt slammed Wiman into the canvas, which left him out cold and the ref flying in to stop the fight.

Replays showed just how Leavitt managed to pull off the knockout — by placing his hand on Wiman's neck to ensure his rival's head took the brunt of the fall.

"As violent a finish as we've seen in the octagon in recent times," Paul Felder said in commentary after the finish.

Leavitt said after the fight he was happy to get the win but hoped Wiman was OK.

"That's pretty brutal and it was hard to think about, but it's the fight game, it happens and I'm happy for the win. I just wish I didn't hurt somebody, I guess," he said.

The result of the lightweight bout sees Leavitt move to 8-0 while Wiman drops to 16-10.
