Tyson Fury 'the biggest star in the world', says Duco boss

February 24, 2020

Yesterday's win over Deontay Wilder has rocketed Fury to the top of the heavyweight ranks.

Having claimed the WBC heavyweight title with victory over Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury now stands on his own as the biggest name in boxing, according to Kiwi promoter David Higgins.

After rising to the top of the heavyweight division by defeating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, Fury suffered a spectacular fall from grace in the following years, eventually being stripped of his world titles.

However, after beginning his comeback in 2018, Fury yesterday regained his status as a heavyweight world champion, dethroning Deontay Wilder as the WBC belt holder in convincing style, the previously undefeated American wilting under the self-dubbed Gypsy King's sustained barrage of blows.

Speaking to 1 NEWS about what Fury's win means for the heavyweight division, Duco Events boss Higgins claims that there can be no question as to who the best in the world currently is.

"Fury is probably the biggest star in the world now," Higgins says.

"I've met him, and he is the most larger than life character I've ever met.

"Muhammad Ali had great one-liners etc, Fury's nearly as good as that, if not as good.

"He scripts his own material, he sings wonderful songs.

"He's smart too. He sang American Pie [after beating Wilder], Tyson Fury sang American Pie for a reason.

"He's already a star in the UK, his promoter Bob Arum was trying to make him a star in the United States. What better way to make him a star then to sing an American classic after the win?

"Tyson deserves to be called the best heavyweight in the world after the win."

Fury will now be lining up his next fight, tipped to take on Anthony Joshua - holder of the WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF belts to unify the heavyweight division.
