Two horses die, five jockeys taken to hospital after falling in horror crash

March 11, 2019

A horror crash during a race in Australia yesterday has seen two horses die and five jockeys taken to hospital.

The fatal accident, which happened during race two in Tamworth yesterday afternoon, was sparked after Son Of A Gun appeared to collapse at the 900m mark of the 1400m maiden.

The fall created a domino effect, with Rachel King (on Modern Family), Wendy Peel (Cherokee), Josh Adams (James Richard), and Kath Bell-Pitomac (Stella Miss) all falling as well.

All five jockeys were taken to hospital for observation but no serious injuries were reported. Three riders had issues with their leg, collarbone and concussion though.

Son Of A Gun's collapse was due to a heart attack suffered mid-race, the Northern Daily Leader reported. The other dead horse, which had to be euthanised, wasn't identified.
