An extension of Halsey Wharf is Team New Zealand's favoured option for the next America's Cup base in Auckland.

Auckland Council and ATEED (the city's events and tourism entity) have put five preferred options on the table for Team New Zealand's America's Cup defence in 2021.

Costs range from $145-190m for the bases which are all around the city's wharves and viaduct basin area.

The event is expected to generate between $550 and $1 billion for the local economy.

The Council says an extension of Halsey Wharf would be part of a standard consent process and is confident work will be completed on schedule.

The Council has yet to discuss options or funding with the new government. The Auckland Council is expected to make a decision on November 23.
