Spark reveal monthly fee price for new sports broadcasting service that will include NBA, F1, Premier League and more

February 20, 2019

New Zealand telecommunications company Spark has announced they'll launch a new sports broadcasting service in early March.

Kiwi sports fans can trial Spark Sport for a month for free with further access priced at $19.99 monthly.

Jeff Latch, Head of Spark Sport says the service will be a "new way of watching sport to New Zealanders".

"Spark Sport offers a modern and convenient way to watch sport: no long-term contract, the ability to purchase a single standalone sports package, and an affordable monthly price."

Spark Sport will offer the Formula 1 season, the FIH Pro League, live NBA matches, Heineken Cup games, Premier League and Champions League content and the World Rally Championship.

The service will also work alongside TVNZ for some events; the first being the Australian Grand Prix next month which will simulcast on TVNZ's DUKE channel as well.

Spark Sport will also partner with TVNZ for the Rugby World Cup later this year, with plans, pricing and packaging details for the event to be revealed in April.

"We are well on track with our planning for September and look forward to releasing more information about how Kiwis will watch the Rugby World Cup, as we expect many New Zealanders will want to sign up early."

Initially, Spark Sport will be available on the web, Apple and Android products and Google Chromecast, with selected Samsung TVs following shortly after.

In the following six months, an app will gradually become available for platforms such as Apple TV, Panasonic, LG and Sony Smart TVs.
