Softball NZ opens new door for future White Sox with pathway to Little League World Series

Young Kiwi softballers who dream of becoming the next generation of White Sox players could get an early experience of competing on the world stage thanks to a new pathway opened by Softball NZ.

Softball New Zealand have announced a new affiliation with the Little League 'Junior' Division which will see one team from New Zealand attempt to qualify for the Little League Softball World Series in the US.

The Under 15 Girls National tournament now has extra incentive besides becoming age-grade national champions, with the winning region's team qualifying to compete at the Asia – Pacific Qualifier in Singapore next June.

Should the team win, they will then progress to compete in Washington in the Little League Junior Division World Series next August.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to provide an additional pathway to promote the youth game and further the development of female softball," Softball NZ manager Glen Roff said.

All matches in the Little League World Series are streamed and televised by sports television network ESPN.

Next year's Little League National U15 Girls Tournament is in Palmerston North in January.
