'Short notice, under-prepared' - Joseph Parker's promoter rules out June rematch with Anthony Joshua

Joseph Parker's promoters aren't going to rush into a rematch with Anthony Joshua, with the Brit now searching for an opponent after Jarrell Miller tested positive for a banned substance.

With American fighter Miller having tested positive for GW1516, the June 1 bout at Madison Square Garden finds itself under a cloud of uncertainty, with Joshua's American debut potentially in doubt in the forseeable future.

Speculation has been rife as to who could potentially step into the ring with Joshua at the last minute, with Kiwi fighter Parker putting his hand up for another crack at the current WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF title holder.

However, speaking to Radio New Zealand, Parker's promoter and Duco Events chief David Higgins made it clear that his fighter won't be in any rush to step in at such short notice.

[Joseph's] committed to another run at winning the world title and unifying, and we'll do it in a methodical, sensible manner and back yourself to win kind of way," Higgins said.

"Our view is that Joe will be fighting Joshua again and we'll be doing so properly and preparing properly.

"To sort of jump in at short notice, under-prepared, would be something you do just for the money, and Joseph doesn't need the money."

No indication has been given yet as to Joshua's potential next opponent, with names such as Luis Ortiz and Kubrat Pulev being touted as other options for the unbeaten Brit to fight.
