Photos: Driver and horse lucky to escape serious injury after big crash at Christchurch raceway

Driver Terry Chmiel and his horse are lucky to have avoided serious injury after a heinous crash that was caught on camera at Addington Raceway in Christchurch this afternoon.

Chmiel was sent flying 30 metres in the air during the crash. He was driving Divinia Bellezza, who collided with horses First Class Lady, driven by Sam Ottley, and Held to Ransom, driven by Robbie Close.

Trackside reported that Chmiel was able to walk to the ambulance after the big fall and was taken to hospital.

Ottley and Close walked away uninjured from the accident.

The three horses involved in the collision were also uninjured.

The race was called off and 30 minutes later was re-run.
