Nine finalists announced for NZ's best sporting moment of the year, three from Comm Games

Nine sporting highlights have been selected as finalists for the Halberg sporting moment of the year, with the winner decided by votes from the public.

Three of the finalists are from the Commonwealth Games - David Liti's weight lifting gold medal, the Black Sticks women's semi-final win over England and Black Ferns Sevens' Kelly Brazier's match winning try against Australia in the final.

David Liti will represent NZ in the super heavyweight class at the Commonwealth Games.

Football Ferns U17 goalkeeper Anna Leat's efforts during her side's penalty shootout win against Japan is also contender along with the two bronze medallists at the Winter Olympics - Nico Porteous and Zoi Sadowski-Synnott.

The two Kiwi teens were smiling from ear-to-ear after their mammoth efforts on the slopes in PyeongChang.

The Halberg Awards will be held at Auckland's Spark Arena on February 21.

Nominees for sporting moment of the year:

1. Nico Porteous and Zoi Sadowski-Synnott winning bronze at the Olympic Winter Games within two hours of each other in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

2. David Liti breaks a Commonwealth Games record and wins gold in the men's 105kg+ weightlifting division.

3. Kelly Brazier scores stunning solo try in overtime to secure gold for the Black Ferns Sevens team against Australia at the Commonwealth Games.

4. Black Sticks women's defeat Olympic champions England in a penalty shootout in their semifinal at the Commonwealth Games.

5. White Ferns' Amelia Kerr scores a record breaking 232 not out against Ireland, secures the highest score in women's ODIs in Dublin.

6. Warriors skipper Roger Tuivasa-Sheck receives an impromptu haka from Warriors and Kiwis teammates after winning the Dally M Player of the Year in Sydney.

7. Auckland men's rugby team take out the Mitre 10 Cup Premiership final in overtime against arch rivals Canterbury at Eden Park, Auckland).

8. Black Caps outclass Pakistan in their first Test, win by four runs in Abu Dhabi.

9.  Anna Leat's leads New Zealand into the semi-final of the FIFA U-17 women's World Cup in Uruguay, after her efforts in the penalty shootout against Japan.
