Melbourne Cup form guide: Back the favourite? Or a 60-1 outsider?

Are you torn as to where to put your money for the Melbourne Cup? Not to worry, as 1 NEWS' racing expert Guy Heveldt has a look at where you should bet for the race that stops two nations.

If you want a safe bet, cup favourite Yucatan could be the one for you, paying a cool $5.50 to win, and $2.30 to place.

If you're feeling a tad patriotic, why not back a horse contender with Kiwi connections? Zacada will net you a whopping $67 for the win, while Sir Charles Road could bring you $61 with a win.

Meanwhile, the veteran Who Shot Thebarman is back for a fourth Melbourne Cup, paying $34 for victory, trained by Chris Waller, the mastermind behind Winx, also responsible for Youngstar ($15) and Finche ($26).

Other horses trained by Kiwis include Vengeur Masque (paying $71) and Soundcheck ($34).

For those eager to get behind a Kiwi jockey on the other hand, James McDonald finds himself on favourite Yucatan, while another outsider, Michael Walker, is with A Prince of Arran - paying $18 for the win, $5.50 to place.

Lastly, keep an eye out for Magic Circle, paying $8 for the win, while owner Marwan Koukash is promising to parade in his g-string should his horse take the win.
