New Zealand's weightlifting golden boy David Liti is showing no signs of slowing down, toppling a national record today in Auckland which has stood for 16 years.
The 22-year-old surpassed Kiwi great Nigel Avery with a record 176kg snatch.
Liti said he was chuffed with his record lift.
"Over the moon really, I've wanted those records since I started weightlifting," said Liti.
His coach Tina Bell says his form is coming just right before the November world championships.
"We are just well and truly on our way to a great preparation for the world's," said Bell.
Liti won gold at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games men's 105kg+ division in April and was awarded a special sportsmanship award during the closing ceremony.
