Kiwi UFC star Dan Hooker offers free gym membership to thief who stole his wallet

January 16, 2019
Hooker is looking to line up another fight on the UFC Fight Night Adelaide card in December.

Kiwi UFC star Dan Hooker said he plans to make a surprising gesture to the yet-to-be-identified person who stole his wallet over the weekend - offering a free membership at his gym.

The alleged thief swiped Hooker's wallet from his truck over the weekend in Auckland, leading the Kiwi fighter to take to social media asking his followers for help in identifying the person.

But instead of delivering his own justice when he finds him, Hooker wants to show some understanding and offer him a membership to his gym, The Combat Academy in Ellerslie, which he opened last year.

"I'm going to turn the other cheek and give him a free membership to my gym. Martial arts will teach him self respect and discipline so he doesn't go around stealing from other hardworking Kiwis. I just need to track him down to extend the olive branch," Hooker wrote on Instagram.

He emphasised that the offer wasn't a trap.

Hooker said in a previous post the thief had used his card to withdraw money at a car wash facility in Greenlane on Saturday night.

The "Hangman" has been competing in the UFC since 2014, initially starting out as a featherweight before moving to light weight in 2017.

He won his first four bouts at the new weight class to crack the UFC's fighter rankings for the first time but his streak was ended last month by sixth-ranked Brazilian Edson Barboza.
