Kiwi Tim Price talks up wife after his Burghley Horse Trials triumph - 'She has a baby and then a few months later wins Badminton'

September 3, 2018

Tim's wife Jonelle, and fellow equestrian, took out the prestigious Badminton event in May.

Kiwi power couple Tim and Jonelle Price have become the second husband and wife to win two prestigious equestrian events in the same year, but Tim is convinced his wife is the champion in their household.

Tim won the Burghley Horse Trials this morning while his wife Jonelle won the Badminton event in May.

"Jonelle she's incredible I could never do what she does, she has a baby and then a few months later wins Badminton then wins another four star on a different horse under tough conditions," said Price.

"She is a stalwart in the family .... cool, calm, collected and can deliver."

Tim collected 95,000 pounds (NZD $185,000) for winning the Burghley event and is the 14th New Zealander to win at Burghley.

"It's incredible, look I'm not a fool I know that this is pretty major and you make a massive effort to try be successful in a place like this.

"Success can be measured in so many different ways but to win is just the ultimate."

Tim won the Burghley title after scoring 27.3 penalty points in the show-jumping section while riding Ringwood Sky Boy.

"Burghley is the one – there is Badminton which is up there as well of course, that is massive.

"I'd take any of these big wins, but to come here in Brughley, it is so demanding, it's so vigorous and you need everything to go your way.

"So it's just incredible that it’s come together at this occasion."

Fellow New Zealander Andrew Nicholson finished third.
