Kevin Barry warns of 'much improved' Joseph Parker after elbow surgery ahead of Joshua bout

March 23, 2018

The Kiwi heavyweight is back to his best after two operations, says his trainer.

Kiwi heavyweight Joseph Parker will be back to his hard-hitting best in next month's world heavyweight title unification bout against Anthony Joshua in Cardiff, trainer Kevin Barry says.

Following a lacklustre 2017, where 26-year old Parker won his only two fights over Razvan Cojanu and Hughie Fury by decision rather than knockout, the unbeaten Kiwi was revealed to have had two operations to treat injuries to his elbows, with the WBO heavyweight champion rediscovering his power.

Speaking to media in London, Barry spoke about the improvement in Parker, following the two operations late last year.

"A lot of people were critical - especially in the Fury fight," Barry said.

"Why was he leading with so many left hooks? What happened to the double, triple jab that Joseph Parker is famous for?"

"I think we can see what happened to the double, triple jab - the reason he was leading with left hooks was because he couldn't straighten his left arm."

"The Joseph Parker that will step into the ring on March 31 (April 1 NZT), will be a much improved version of the 2017 Joseph Parker who fought Hughie Fury and Razvan Cojanu."
