Joseph Parker forced to adjust training routine to deal with Andy Ruiz's shorter challenge

November 28, 2016

The trainer's family is back in NZ from Las Vegas, son Taylor helping train Parker, wife Tanya assisting.

After preparing all year to take on a tall opponent like Anthony Joshua, Joseph Parker was forced to tweak his training plans ahead of next month's WBO title fight with Andy Ruiz.

He went from boxing against six foot five opponents, down to six foot, at best.

"We'd been preparing the last two camps to fight on the Anthony Joshua undercard or fight Anthony Joshua in the UK," said trainer Kevin Barry.

"So we preparing with tall sparring partners."

Barry is happy with Parker's 75 rounds of sparring against shorter opponents, using differing and sharper techniques.

The Kiwi heavyweight has had a busy year of fighting and has been using cryotherapy as a way to recover faster after training.

The programme now winds down over the next 10 days, as Parker's camp prepare for the December 10 date with destiny.
