Joseph Parker arrives in UK, promises fight of his life

March 18, 2018

Joseph Parker has arrived in the UK ahead of his world title fight with Anthony Joshua, vowing to deliver the performance of his life when the two clash in Cardiff on March 31.

After landing in Gatwick, the freshly shaven Parker admitted to SKY Sports News UK that he wasn’t at his best in 2017, but felt his camp in Las Vegas had him in perfect shape for the fight.

"Last year wasn’t our best year (there are) many reasons why, it wasn’t the best performances in the ring but I tell you this, we’re going to put in the best performance of our lives come March 31.”

When asked about Joshua’s surprising admission that he had contemplated defeat, Parker believed it was not only a sign of respect, but also the Englishman being realistic.

The Kiwi heavyweight faces off with Anthony Joshua on April 1 for four world titles.

“When you have two champions that are undefeated wanting to bash each other to become the unified champion of the world then of course realistically one of us is going to lose so I have to have that in the back of my mind,” Parker said.

“But in saying that we’re here with confidence and we’re here to take the belts back to New Zealand,” he added.

The relaxed Parker team were also in a playful mood, with trainer Kevin Barry cracking a joke when asked about the British heavyweight Tyson Fury.

“We heard Tyson is a really good cook,” Kevin Barry quipped when asked about the possibility of Fury playing a role in their camp.
